Our Story
Doran and Christen O’Donnell started the SpeakEasy on a shoestring budget way back in October 2015. With the help of two of Doran’s former college students, we tore down walls, built a cold room, added floors, sinks, a bathroom, and a bar. We bought tables and chairs from Craigslist, and started our dream . At that time we had 22 taps and some wine. Less than a year later we took on a full bar and kitchen, growing from 22 taps to 36 and slowly building up our food and cocktail selections.
It wasn’t always easy. The pandemic almost shut us down like so many other small businesses, but the support from Grants Pass was wonderful and we came back better than before, remodeling as we went. Doran got throat cancer when the shut down occurred which also didn’t help things. Then, Aril 2023, there was a fire in our building that closed our doors for over 6 months. We decided to upgrade a bit, adding a lot of TVs and a jukebox, the NFL Sunday Ticket, and have expanded a bit for future plans. Watch for changes and we thank you for your continued support.
